Hurricane Harvey and Irma Volunteering and Donation Sites

As a Texan who has family in Houston, Harvey was a major deviation to the city of Houston and people’s homes. I can only imagine how much fear residence in Miami are feeling right now!

Per CNN, there are currently 10,265 Miami-Dade residents at shelters throughout the county, per communications director Mike Hernandez. Thirteen shelters have been opened and five of those are already at capacity, Hernandez says.

Hurricane Harvey Update: 8 Free Shelter Sites by HIPCAMP, HISD Update and Donation Information

As we continue disaster relief from Hurricane Harvey we still have a lot to rebuilding here in Texas. Per Reuters, Hurricane Harvey floodwaters had encroached on at least 30,000 properties in the two counties, with a total market value of $23.4 billion. Reuters also estimated 26% is land value; the rest is buildings and other improvements. In Harris County, where Reuters was able to determine the property’s use, about 18% of the affected property is residential. As of today there are more than 103,000 individuals and households had been approved for FEMA assistance worth more than $66.4 million but that is not all the victims and the count continues to grow. The world was shocked after hearing about the Ariana Grande Concert terrorist incident that happened yesterday in Manchester. Reported by NBC as of now there are 22 fatalities including children and 59 injured plus several people are still missing from this tragic event. As of now those that live in the area or nearby are urged to stay away per Mayor Andy Burham until further notice. Per Mayor Andy Burnham’s tweet for those stranded in the area and have access to twitter use #RoomForManchester where hotels and local people are offering refuge.
