How to Watch MET Gala 2024: “Garden of Time” Event

Tonight May 6, 2024, the annual MET gala, coined as “fashion’s biggest night,” will take place at New York’s Metropolitan Art Museum hosted by Vogue’s Anne Wintour, the editor-in-chief of Vogue and the lead chairperson of the Gala event and guest list. The fundraising gala is held every year on the first Monday in May for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.  Co-chairs for the MET Gala Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny and Chris Hemsworth with Shou Chew, chief executive officer of TikTok, and Jonathan Anderson, creative director of Loewe, as honorary chairs.

The 2024 MET Gala will be in celebration of the Metropolitan Art Museum Costume Institute’s new exhibition, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.” Inspired by English novelist J.G. Ballard’s 1962 short story, the MET Gala theme is “The Garden of Time,” which could be seen as the evolution of human history and the endless cycle of creation and destruction. Imagining a timeless aromatic extraordinary garden, the MET Gala will probably include ensembles gardenia fused florals with distinct vintage looks.

“Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” exhibit features 250 items from The Costume Institute’s permanent collection, including some garments very rarely seen in public and so fragile they need to be under glass. Curators wanted to engage all the senses, including smell. They worked with a “smell artist.” And there’s a garment that actually grows. Part of the idea is to pay tribute to the natural world. The exhibit opens to the public Friday and runs through Sept. 2.
