The cancellation of the 2020 SXSW Festival and Conferences due to concerns of the health and safety of attendees due to the Coronavirus has left several artists without venues to perform or screen their films. Furthermore, SXSW hugely impacts all local businesses, venues and restaurants in Austin bringing in nearly $300 million into the city which will now be lost revenue. Even though SXSW 2020 is canceled, ALL SYSTEMS ARE GO for next Thursday, March 19, as Spaceflight Records and Mosaic Sound Collective host the inaugural liftoff of “SKYLAB 2020,” a day and night party featuring a lineup of 29 of Austin’s top local artists. The SKYLAB 2020 event kicks off at 11 a.m. through 2 a.m. at Austin’s historic Scholz Garten, located at 1607 San Jacinto, Austin, Texas 78701.

The City of Austin Announces Cancellation of SXSW 2020 March Events Due to the Coronavirus

Even though there were concerns and petitions to cancel the SXSW 2020 Conference and Festival due to the massive spread of the coronavirus as of this morning it was still on surprisingly! Announced today, March 6th and just one week before the infamous SXSW Conference and Festival, the City of Austin have canceled the March dates for SXSW and SXSW EDU. SXSW has stated today that they will faithfully follow the City’s directions.

D’Addario Foundation, a 501c3 non-profit, and Guitar Center, the leading retailer of musical instruments, lessons, repairs and rentals in the U.S, have collaborated for the third year in a row to raise money on International Women’s Day in support of more girls in music.  On Sunday, March 8, 2020, 50% of the proceeds from all D’Addario products sold at Guitar Center or guitarcenter.com will be donated to the D’Addario Foundation’s Music Education for Girls Initiative.

This week SXSW has announced an initial list of SXSW Comedy Festival participants and shows. The SXSW Comedy Festival will include performers from all reaches of entertainment, SXSW Comedy Festival hosts a lineup of acclaimed comedians and entertainers. This year’s festival will also host performances from the industry’s brightest comics and a catalog of diverse programming including stand-up, sketch, improv, podcast recordings, conversations, and more.
