Alamo Drafthouse is a national theatre where patrons can order adult drinks and real food, not just popcorn, throughout the movie. It’s a genius business concept that started in Austin, TX by Tim and Karrie League in 1997.
What started out as one location in a non-descript parking garage in Austin is now a national movie theatre phenomenon. Currently there are Alamo Drafthouse theaters throughout Texas in Austin, Houston, San Antonio, New Braunfels, Dallas, Lubbock and El Paso. Theaters across the country include Winchester, VA, Yonkers, NY, Kansas City, MO, Denver, CO, and Ashburn, VA. Plans are underway to open in several additional markets in the coming years.
To add to the success of the national Alamo Drafthouse Theatres, today they announced their new downsizing initiatives to create a state-of-the-art nano-theater. This will be a first for the cinema industry and making Alamo Drafthouse one of the most innovative theatres. Downsized guests can enjoy the tiny film, food, and drink, all in one miniaturized seat. These specially constructed auditoriums feature:
- 124 super-comfy 3.25″ seats, all compliant with federal downsize regulations.
- A glorious 1⁄4K resolution screen with immersive 51 sound
- Armed with a rechargeable 1570 mAh Lithium Ion battery
- Nano-theaters can be transported for special events anywhere on the planet.
For a limited time, Alamo Drafthouse will be displaying 1:1 scale mockups of these theaters at locations in Austin, TX (Lakeline and Slaughter), Yonkers, NY, Denver, CO (Sloans Lake and Littleton), Lubbock, TX, Houston, TX, and El Paso, TX. Downsized and regular-sized guests are encouraged to share their feedback and photos using #DownsizeAlamo on social media platforms.
