A.POTTS Autumn/Winter 2021 “SHADOWLIGHT” Collection at NYFW

This week during New York Fashion Week, A.POTTS presented his Autumn/Winter 2021 “SHADOWLIGHT” Collection with a fashion film on Council of Fashion Designers of America’s (CFDA) Runway360 platform. The “SHADOWLIGHT” collection explores 80s Soho through an artistic lens taking inspiration from the soulful New Romantic spirit of Jody Watley and the evolved Classicism of American Modern dance.

With designer Aaron Potts’ signature silhouettes, voluminous and sculptural, the Autumn/Winter 2021 collection leverages crisp, airy fabrics to inspire movement.

Shades of black, charcoal and silver are electrified with punches of sunburst yellow and sulfur orange.

In the collection nylons and jerseys paired with more structured wools and knits provide balance to the iconic, exaggerated A.POTTS portions creating a choreography between the lighter fabrics and those with a heavier hand.

Potts wanted this collection to speak to the “presence within the juxtaposition of light and dark; claiming space within the darkness through lightness and positivity.”

He powerfully made the point in the above short video around modern dance with a cast in billowing, layered, asymmetric, deconstructed looks.

ABOUT A.POTTS

Aaron was born and raised in Detroit, MI to a working-class family with roots in the American South. A childhood filled with church, weekend fishing trips, going to work with his carpenter father and shopping with his dress-loving mama would shape his future view of art and design. He discovered fashion in high school and never looked back. He graduated from Parsons School of Design and went on to intern for Marc Jacobs and Donna Karan.

After an international career designing for Emanuel Ungaro, Anne Klein, Ellen Tracy, Escada and Tamara Mellon and helping to launch brands such as Kaufmanfranco and TOCCIN, the time was right for Aaron to create APOTTS. The brand embodies his embrace of creativity, diversity, artistic community, self-expression, unisex sensibility and practicality. APOTTS was awarded the 2020 Fashion Group International Rising Star Award for All Gender collections.
