Making a return to Austin, SPIN Magazine has partnered with Tipify, a social networking and crowdfunding platform launched to enable direct financial support for independent musicians, for a SXSW showcase.
On Friday, March 13, SPIN Magazine and Tipify will host the “Road to Austin,” a live showcase set in the heart of downtown Austin at Courtyard ATX. The Road to Austin Live Showcase will be a full-on breakout moment for a dozen hand-picked Tipify artists who have the backing of their devoted fans.
Attendees can expect back-to-back, battle-of-the-bands-style sets, nonstop discovery, and that electric “I saw them before they blew up” during SXSW. Doors open at 5 p.m., music kicks off at 6 p.m. and the vibes go late. The showcase is free and open to the public – because the future of music should be accessible, loud, and packed wall-to-wall with people who love it.
The Road to Austin Live Showcase spotlights artists standing at the edge of their breakout moment. Each performer is handpicked from Tipify’s rising talent—artists who recognize the power of their fans—giving audiences a front‑row look at what’s next in music.
The SPIN Magazine and Tipify event extends further than just the live performances, the showcase will feature a Tipify x SPIN Lounge. It will be a dedicated hangout space where SPIN Magazine and Tipify will host on-site artist interviews, capture behind-the-scenes content, and spotlight special moments throughout the night.
The Road to Austin initiative follows a curated discovery model: artists share their music through the joint SPIN x Tipify submission hub, and a small group—typically 10 to 12 acts—is chosen through an editorial review led by SPIN. There’s no fan voting, no popularity metrics, and no emphasis on follower counts. The goal is to honor SPIN’s legacy as a tastemaker while weaving in Tipify’s direct‑to‑artist support system, creating a pathway that champions talent and builds sustainable careers.
