Texas A&M Launches Xplorer Virtual Tour

It’s a sign of times when you can now take a tour of your potential college using virtual reality! Back in my day we all would have to physically visit the campus to get a good idea about the campus which was fun since sometimes your parents didn’t go with you. Then again back in my day we all had beepers and only the rich kids had their own PCs and cell phones. Boy have times changed and I am not even that old!

This week Texas A&M University launched a new VR-enabled virtual tour powered by concept3D Inc’s Xplorer Virtual Tour.

Per Texas A&M University’s press release they are among the first to launch the new industry standard in virtual tour software, concept3D‘s Xplorer Virtual Tour, a powerful VR-enabled system that Texas A&M University is using to give visitors a powerful and realistic way to experience campus life from anywhere in the world. Xplorer Virtual Tour makes it easy and fun for visitors to explore Texas A&M on their own terms and at their own pace. Xplorer Virtual Tour is a stand alone system, or add-on module to concept3D’s CampusBird interactive map platform – used by hundreds of universities, colleges and schools.

Experience Texas A&M’s Xplorer Virtual Tour

With Xplorer Virtual Tour, visitors can toggle between 360 degree-enabled tour and virtual reality mode for use with a mobile VR headset. The Xplorer Virtual Tour system uniquely allows visitors to orient themselves with an in-window map (“Minimap”) that shows their location and direction, and allows them to use the map to jump to and explore other locations. Additionally, the new system gives clients full control of the virtual experience and makes it easy to add or update tour content at any time. I played with it for just a bit but it’s pretty cool and the images were very crisp.

Xplorer Virtual Tour gives visitors the ability to tour existing and future facilities in full 3D. Xplorer Virtual Tour melds 360-degree panorama images to create a seamless tour experience and offers on-screen text overlay to feature information about each location, as well as two integrated menus for navigation, zoom and virtual reality settings. Xplorer also includes a guided tour option with audio narration functionality so tour participants can listen and learn throughout their virtual journey. Xplorer Virtual Tour is offered as both a stand-alone virtual tour system and an add-on to concept3D’s CampusBird and atlas3D interactive map and virtual tour platforms.

This is such an innovative way to experience campus life while not physically going to the campus! I suggest to follow Xplorer to what other tours they may launch!
