In 1963 the President of the United States issued a proclamation announcing National Small Business Week that recognizes the contributions of America’s entrepreneurs and small business owners. This year’s National Small Business Week has been from April 29th and continuing to May 5th, 2018. Did you know that more than half of Americans either own or work for a small business, and they create about two out of every three new jobs in the U.S. each year? With the growth of technology, remote workspaces and growth of local businesses I predict this will increase by next year. During National Small Business Week, the U.S. Small Business Administration takes the opportunity to highlight the impact of entrepreneurs, small business owners, and others from all 50 states and U.S. territories. When I moved back to Austin from San Francisco I immediately started looking up various tech events throughout the city. The first events I attended were Austin StartUp week, NewCo Austin festivals and the ATX Startup Crawl.
This year Austin Startup week is October 3-7th at various locations in downtown Austin. During Austin Startup week there are several different useful panels in regards to Startups so definitely check the schedule and also give yourself time between each panels. Austin Startup week is a great opportunity to meet with fellow StartUp owners from all over Austin.
The ATX Startup Crawl will be on Thursday, October 6th before the last day of Austin Startup week. I had a blast last year and hope to attend this year as well. You can’t go wrong with mixing geeks and cocktails; it’s rather comical. To attend the ATX Startup Crawl or if you would like more information the click here.
One may think “I have to wait all the way to October to hang out with my Startup friends? Blasphemy!”
Never fear they have a few events before then to meet with fellow entrepreneurs. On July 26th & 27th NewCo festival will be returning to Austin. At the NewCo event attendees get to choose from 90+ sessions led by founders and entrepreneurs within their headquarters throughout Austin. For more information or if you would like to attend NewCo click here.
I hope to see you guys at these events; as usual I will be attending all three events. If you see me definitely come over and say hi! I will also tweet about the events on @nrpena, @hitechchic, and @cutegeek if you’re curious to see what going on at each event.
Let the games begin!
