Sony’s Reveals VISION-S Electric Car Prototype and Airpeak Aircraft at CES 2021

This week at CES 2021, Sony Corporation (“Sony”) has unveiled the prototype of the VISION-S Electric Car and Airpeak aircraft. Both projects have been at the forefront of Sony’s innovative product development throughout the years for 2021.

Back in December 2020, Sony announced the completion of its VISION-S prototype vehicle, which has been under development with the goal of contributing to the evolution of mobility. AT CES Sony announced VISION-S electric car development activity has reached the next stage and gave attendees a sneak peak of the VISION-S Prototype.

With the spread of 5G connectivity and the advancement of self-driving technology, the vehicle interior will become a place for relaxation, like a living room. In anticipation of this evolution, the VISION-S Prototype cabin is designed to be a luxurious space in which entertainment content can be enjoyed to the full. Each seat has a full-body soundstage and luxurious visual delights. In addition, the intuitive ergonomically designed UI provides a deep sense of comfort and immersion that transcends the constraints of the mobile space. VISION-S Prototype is also part of the network. Data is synchronized in real time and the software is repeatedly updated over the network.

Sony’s “Safety Cocoon” concept addresses safety and security–which will be critical for enabling the advancement of autonomous driving in the near future. With sensing technology that surpasses human vision, the system provides a 360-degree view of the vehicle’s surroundings, while at the same time carefully monitoring the condition of the driver and other conditions inside the vehicle. Furthermore, by feeding back the sensed information in real time to the driver, it provides a sense of safety and comfortable mobility experience.  Currently the VISION-S has begun public road tests in Austria. The Airpeak aircraft is part of Sony’s drone project in the area of AI robotics. The drone, equipped with the α7S III full-frame mirrorless single lens camera, unleashes all constraints and barriers for creators to push the boundaries of visual expression with dynamic shooting.

Sony launched the Airpeak brand with the goal to further develop today’s drone technology while achieving the utmost in value creation. In order to fully support the creativity of video creators, the payload of the drone can be equipped with a Sony’s Alpha™ full-frame mirrorless camera to capture high quality, full-frame aerial photography and video.

Airpeak, the industry’s smallest class of drone that can be equipped with the Alpha system, is capable of dynamic filming and precise, stable flight, and aims to contribute to the world of entertainment while also pursuing new possibilities for creative expression. As the first phase of this project, Sony will launch a new business targeted for professional photography and video production in the spring of 2021.
