Today, P!nk and Ricky Gervais will be crashing New York Fashion Week via a PETA video they’re featured in that will circle Spring Studios to draw attention to the suffering behind fur and exotic skins, both sold by Fendi, whose show is slated for this evening.
Per the press release, the stars voice a computer-generated alligator and rabbit, respectively, who are demanding their skin back, noting that however much a human paid for a crocodile-skin bag and a fur coat, the animals have “paid a lot more!” PETA is also placing posters around Spring Studios showing a desolate runway and the words “Your Leather Outfit Is Killing Animals and the Planet,” created by ad agency Archer Troy.
“Fur and skins are the bits and pieces of sensitive animals who didn’t want to die, and in 2022, there’s no excuse to dress like a Neanderthal,” says PETA U.S. Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “PETA is calling on New York Fashion Week to showcase the vegan fabrics and designs that show respect for animals and the environment.”
There has been documentation by PETA that alligators’ necks are hacked open and metal rods are shoved into the conscious animals’ heads in the exotic-skins industry, and investigations into fur farms have revealed that terrified animals are confined to filthy wire cages before they’re gassed, electrocuted, or bludgeoned or their necks are broken. Some are even skinned alive. The group is urging everyone to embrace the innovative brands redefining the fashion landscape with high-tech vegan materials that leave animals in peace.
The video short will be broadcast on the sides of a vehicle circling 6 St. Johns Ln. from 1 to 9 p.m. today. The back of the vehicle will display an ad reading, “Animals Pay the Ultimate Price for ‘Fashion.’ Wear Vegan.”
