Kickstarter Campaign: HUB by ekko

EkkoI am huge fan of crowd funding however due to its growing popularity sometimes some of the products aren’t that innovative. My outlook changed on this when I received an email about a new product on Kickstarter called the HUB.

Since I have been called the audio guru for all the sites I write for the HUB caught my attention. HUB is the first multi-user hi-fi audio streaming device that uses built-in Wi-Fi to stream hi-res, low-latency sound to any headphones or speakers. The HUB allows you to share real-time wireless audio with 4+ users and each receiver incorporates volume and mute functions. The HUB has two different sizes Mini and Full size plus it also comes in either silver or black (scroll below for the full specs chart). Continue Reading →

My Fashion Schwag at SXSW and Silicon Valley Comic Con

SXSW ComicCon

As Hi-Tech Chic continues to grow we have had more people asking us to review or use their products during different technology events.  This year for SXSW and SV Comic Con Flashion Statement and Aspire Eyewear sent me over some great gear to test 0ut!

Aspire Sunglass ColageAspire Eyewear sent me 4 pairs of sunglasses for me to test out while at SXSW and SV Comic Con. I had never heard of this brand before and was curious on how they differ from other brands. Aspire Eyewear glasses and sunglasses are 50 percent lighter than a typical plastic frame, 50 percent thinner than a typical plastic frame and 22 percent lighter than a typical titanium frame. Aspire Eyewear is created with SDN-4 (a nylon material proprietary to the brand) and 3D technology (reducing prototype development from 20 weeks to 60 minutes in most cases). Sunglasses Aspire

When I received and un-boxed the sunglasses I noticed how light they were immediately, in fact everyone that has had them on say the same thing. Since it was just me on ground zero for both events but 4 pair of sunglasses I decide to play a little game “Who will take a picture with me in the dark with Aspire Eyewear Sunglasses. If you can’t tell by the picture it wasn’t hard to get people to take a selfie with me. Throughout both SXSW and SV Comic Con I wore the Aspire Eyewear sunglasses and have fallen in love with this brand. Michelle Obama’s Keynote during SXSW

Michelle CollageWhen I started writing for Cutegeek over 7 years ago doing technology reviews men balked. In the land mostly ran by men I was infiltrating a topic that a lot women currently didn’t cover or report on, technology.

I was told by men early on I would “Never Make It” writing for technology and go back to being an Executive Assistant where I “belong” as a women.

At times the only reason that men at technology events talked to me purely was because of the way I “looked” and not what I know. I could write a novel for every time I was told I cannot do something because I was a women and a writer.

Sadly this “label” isn’t the first time I felt this way and many women have been in similar situations and not just in tech nor not just women.

As a child I grew up with mostly boys which lead to me being involved with sports and gaming (Nintendo Mario Bro’s 1 and Zelda) plus listening to Hip Hop, Rock and Rap that some women didn’t know. I was influenced by such great talent and on top of that fantastic artists like Missy Elliot and Queen Latifa.

Last week I listened to Michelle Obama’s Keynote and Panel at SXSW (South By Southwest) and the main topic was empowering women, because we have a voice and it needs to be heard! The Panel was moderated by Queen Latifah and included Missy Elliot, Sofia Bush, Diane Warren and of course Michelle Obama. During Michelle’s panel she informed the country we not only have 62 Million females throughout the world underfunded but also of her Let Girls Learn Program.

Women have a right to be heard and the Let Girls Learn Program is not only something to vest in but something that may help younger women to develop and become strong individuals. I fight and continue to fight that one day there will be equality not just in the technology industry but across the board within every field, every race and every person. Statistics still show that women by 70% dominate the consumer POS (Point of Sale).

I urge all my readers to help the ladies you love, vest in women you admire, and treasure the knowledge these ladies give daily. To learn more about Michelle Obama’s Let Girls Learn initiative click here.

Press Release: SPHERO CELEBRATES WOMEN IN TECH

Sphero Women

Happy International Women’s day! Speaking from experience women have come along way in technology. When I first started writing for technology in 2009 there were a lot of men who told me women have no place in technology and especially writing about technology. Men called me everything from being a bitch (because I was being assertive) to an idiot for thinking I could survive writing in technology.

Now in 2016 I am much more accepted by men in technology and there are much more women in tech than 7 years ago. Men now compliment my articles, want to collaborate with me on an event or product, and treat me as their equal. It’s crazy in this short amount of time what women have overcome but we still have more to do till one day we are considered equals in everyone’s eyes.

Throughout the month of March, five women will be featured in an online and social series bringing to light these women’s passions and experience.
