The Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival is held annually in San Francisco, California, at Golden Gate Park. The first festival occurred from August 22 to 24, 2008, and included over 60 musical acts from around the world. Bringing in 40,000 to 60,000 attendees a day, the inaugural festival was mostly a success besides a few hiccups here and there.
The first Outside Lands festival was also geared to the new green movement and included numerous initiatives to make the festival eco-friendly, like inviting participants to use public transport to get to the event via Muni. The festival grounds included and still include the Polo Fields (home to the Lands End Stage), Hellman’s Hollow/Speedway Meadow (Twin Peaks and Panhandle stages), and Lindley Meadow (Sutro and Presidio stages).
I actually went to the very first Outside Lands when I lived in San Francisco and it was not nearly as great as Austin City Limits (ACL) Festival but had potential. Fast forward to 10 years later and their line-up is impressive plus it is a much larger festival.
This year Straw has a contest to win 3 day tickets to Outside Lands. Straw is located in the Hayes Valley neighborhood of San Francisco. They serve carnival-inspired comfort food and the restaurant has carnival décor throughout the restaurant. While at the festival they will be serving their famous Ringmaster donut burger that was featured on the food channel.
