The Paramount Theatre to Honor Filmmaker Robert Rodriguez & Kicks Off Summer Classic Film Series

On Saturday, May 25, 2024, filmmaker Robert Rodriguez, known for El Mariachi, Dusk till Dawn and Sin City movies, will be honored at the Paramount Theatre, in Austin, Texas with a star on the Avenue of Paramount Stars. As the seventh person to receive the honor of a Paramount Star, Rodriguez will be joining Jaston Williams and Joe Sears of Tuna, Jerry Jeff Walker, Lyle Lovett, Delbert McClinton and Ruthie Foster on Congress Avenue.

Taking place at the historic theatre, the unveiling ceremony will begin at 5 p.m. just outside the theatre doors underneath the iconic marquee. It’s free and open to the public with RSVP at the link here. The star ceremony will be followed by a special screening of SIN CITY at 7:30 p.m. inside the Paramount, featuring a Q&A with Robert and Alexis Bledel. The celebration will also kick off “Opening Weekend” for the Paramount Theatre’s 50th year of the Summer Classic Film Series. Opening Weekend of the Summer Classic Film Series begins with a double feature of CASABLANCA and TOP HAT on 35mm on Friday, May 24.

On Sunday, movie fans will be treated to STAR WARS: A NEW HOPE and a screening presented by Hyperreal Film Club of PHANTOM OF THE PARADISE. Italian progressive rock band Goblin has been added to Opening Week celebrations with a live score and screening of George A. Romero’s DAWN OF THE DEAD (1978) on Memorial Day, Monday, May 27.

Later in the series, legendary filmmaker John Waters will join us live to present a double feature of PINK FLAMINGOS and a 50th-anniversary presentation of FEMALE TROUBLE, featuring a Q&A moderated by John Doe. And Robert Rodriguez will stick around as guest curator throughout the entire summer to share more of his favorites – like STAR TREK II: THE WRATH OF KHAN; TERMINATOR 2: JUDGMENT DAY; FIRST BLOOD; an “Alfonso Arau-athon” featuring ROMANCING THE STONE, THREE AMIGOS! and LIKE WATER FOR CHOCOLATE; and Closing Night Film WHAT’S UP, DOC?.
