Technology at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games with Intel

Curious on what technology is being used at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games? If you have been watching the games you may wonder how we are getting great live coverage from the cameras on the luge to the aerial footage used during the snowboarding events. Technology has been all over the Olympics and with Intel as their partner they have stepped it up a notch. The technology we were first immersed in for the Olympics started with Intel’s 1,000 drone display during the Opening Ceremony. It was mind blowing and Intel’s technology has continued to impress us throughout the games thus far. Per Intel below is the technology that is currently being used at the Winter Games.

5G

Intel, KT and ecosystem have collaborated to provide a 5G showcase in Gangneung Olympic Park, in Gwanghwamoon, Seoul, and at other Olympic venues across South Korea.

Intel True VR

Unlike previous Winter Games, Intel True VR is providing the first live virtual reality broadcast of the Olympic Winter Games. Utilizing Olympic Broadcast Services (OBS), Intel has capture a record 30 Olympic events, with both live and video-on-demand content available. The Intel True VR experience allows viewers to tour the Olympic venues. Headset viewers will also be able to “fly” through the world of the Olympic Winter Games, giving the users a sense of the layout of the different locations of specific venues. The virtual reality experience will be available on multiple devices and platforms in partnership with global Olympic Rights-Holding Broadcasters.

To have the Intel True VR experience that is being used at the Olympics you need the NBC Sports app. Below are the links for the Apple Store and Google store for you all to download to the NBC Sports app.

Intel, for the first time ever, brought the ever popular Esports to the Olympic Winter Games by delivering two gaming experiences:

Technology Support

Throughout the games Intel will continue provide technological and content support for the OBS host broadcaster operations, as well as for the Olympic Channel, the multi-platform destination where fans can discover, engage and share in the power of sport and the excitement of the Olympic Games all year round.

As you continue to watch the Olympics take a glance at the Intel technology being used. I believe this Olympics has had more technology than any other past Olympic games. All this technology has made it easy for viewers to immerse themselves in the Winter Games.
