The Climate Together initiative and several eco-brands have partnered to make a real impact for Earth Day, April 22, 2021. Each of the 22 brands have donated to either plant trees or remove plastic bottles from the ocean. In fact, they removed 150,000 plastic bottles from the ocean with Plastic Bank, an organization that helps the world stop ocean plastic pollution while improving the lives of collector communities.
They also planted 15,000 trees in Madagascar with Eden Projects, an organization that restores mangrove forests around the world by employing local people to plant millions of trees every year.
Below are some of the brands that participated in Earth Day 2021:
Hitch: Hitch, the brand that spearheaded this initiative, is a climate neutral certified, full-sized water bottle with a removable, insulated coffee cup hidden inside. With each bottle purchased, Hitch funds the planting of 1 tree through its partner One Tree Planted. To date, Hitch has helped plant over 25,000 trees across five continents. With every order, Hitch also funds the cleanup and removal of 100 single-use plastic bottles from the ocean with partner Plastic Bank, who recycles these plastics and turns them into new products.
Avocado Mattress: Handmade in California, Avocado Mattress is the world’s only Climate Neutral Certified mattress and bedding brand. It’s powered entirely by renewable energy and the materials they use are 100% natural and organic, including 100% GOLS certified organic latex and 100% GOTS certified wool and cotton.
MATE the Label: The brand began by selling vintage t-shirts and slowly evolved into a sustainable brand on a mission is to clean up the fashion industry from toxic materials and dyes that are harmful to people and the planet. Their “clean essentials” are all made sustainably in Los Angeles with non-toxic, natural and certified organic materials.
Sanikind: Eco-entrepreneur Miles Pepper’s second zero-waste product is a refillable hand sanitizer made from recycled ocean-bound plastic. Sanikind is part of 1% for the planet, which donates 1% towards environmental non profits. Since launching in December, they’ve reclaimed the equivalent of 118,000 plastic bottles out of the ocean and prevented over 365,000 disposable sanitizer bottles from entering landfills this year.
GoldiLocks Wraps: Goldilocks beeswax wraps are a reusable, all natural eco-friendly alternative to plastic wrap. Made in Canada with sourced beeswax. Their wraps come in a range of colourful patterns — the goal is to combat single use plastics by replacing them with something that is not only practical, but also beautiful.
