On February 23, 2022, Diesel, the global leader in denim treatments, held its Fall/Winter 2022 fashion show during Milan Fashion Week. Creative Director, Glenn Marten, showcased his first runway show since taking the leadership of the brand. With the themes of experimental, rebellious and playful, the collection is divided into four chapters: denim, utility, pop and artisanal.
The Diesel Fall/Winter 2022 runway was set with 25 x 50-foot exaggerated reality sculptures made from 3D scans of five individuals wearing looks from the collection. Fabric experimentation, the brand’s forte, added an intriguing layer to the coed lineup through plastic or coated treatments conveying visual depth or mimicking leather on denim separates.
Looks from the Diesel show included a teeny denim bra top with a pair of distressed and peeling faded jeans, belted skirt, the trompe l’oeil catsuits, motocross velvet minis, and be-logoed stiletto boots.
Additional looks from the lineup included floor-length denim trench coats worn with matching gloves and bonded-jersey jeans in what the brand has dubbed a “Peel Off” effect. The floor-sweeping denim ‘fur’ coats of his were made by the company’s artisans at a level of technique you’d typically find in a couture house.
“The power of Diesel is that we talk to so many people. We can push sustainability and innovation, and we can push experimentation and concept. It’s pure diesel – you need put it on in two seconds and live your life. For successful living,” states Glenn Martens.
