DJI, the current world leader in civilian drones and aerial imaging technology, just announced they will be delivering its new Spark mini drone to the first wave of purchasers. Shipments of the Spark will now be arriving in stores and homes around the world. Spark is a full-featured mini drone that fits in almost any bag, ready to launch within seconds to shoot 12-megapixel photos and 1080p videos stabilized with a two-axis mechanical gimbal.
Spark has an obstacle sensing system, automated flight modes and it can launch from your palm or could be controlled by hand gestures alone. Spark features new firmware that provides more flexibility by recognizing the selfie gesture right after launching the aircraft from the palm when most of the pilot’s body appears in the frame. Selfies can still be taken from a longer distance after waving and sending Spark away several feet. 
The firmware upgrade provides more ways to control Spark’s flight through the DJI GO 4 app on a mobile device. The firmware upgrade also allows Spark pilots using mobile devices to smoothly adjust the maximum distance it will fly in some of the QuickShot intelligent flight modes.
Spark’s Quickshot flight modes include:
- Rocket – from 30 feet to 160 feet Ascend with the camera pointing downward
- Dronie – From 200 feet you can fly backward and upward, with the camera locked on your subject
- Circle – Circle around your target
- Helix – From 250 feet you can fly upward, spiraling around your subject
While using DJI GO 4 app users can use TapFly mode by just tapping their phone screen and Spark flies in the direction of the tap or exactly where the user tapped while actively sensing obstacles. This allows users to capture shot after shot with just their fingertips.
Another great feature of Spark is ActiveTrack. ActiveTrack automatically recognizes objects of different shapes and sizes then tracks them according to what they are and how fast they move. This makes tracking much easier and more reliable. Users are able to TraceTrack their target from in front or behind, circle around it or ProfileFollow their subject from a fixed perspective.
New Spark pilots can also take advantage of a series of video tutorials designed to help users learn more about the DJI GO 4 app, the pilot experience with a mobile device, how to use gesture mode and Spark’s QuickShot options for intelligent flight modes.
When you purchase the Spark, in the box you will find the aircraft, propellers, intelligent flight battery, charger, micro USB cable, and storage box. Purchasers of the Spark can also buy it with free delivery and one hour of flight training. Their free delivery option usually arrives as fast as 4 hours (after payment confirmed). Their one hour of flight training is in select US markets and currently only include New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami, Houston, Atlanta and Dallas.
