The ExpeditionHacks Hackathon is Coming to Austin During the Classic Game Fest in July

I rarely write about hackathons since I don’t even know how to hack, if I did I wouldn’t have nearly as many technology issues. The ExpeditionHacks event is the exception because this Hackathon is also during the Classic Game Fest in Austin who is celebrating their 10 year anniversary. Austin will definitely be full of geeks and gamers alike July 29th-30th.

This July, Austin-based tech aficionados will have a chance to test their expertise and knowledge at Expedition Hackathons, hosted by technology strategy firm Blue Compass, and taking place in Austin on July 29th-July 30th at Gather – Lamar. Local programmers, tech gurus, engineers, specialists, college students, developers, and more, are being encouraged to register and participate in the Hackathon challenge, with a Grand Prize of $5,000.

There is no question that Austin is primed and ready to train and retain top talent in cybersecurity and technology. In fact, the number of high tech jobs in Austin grew 33% from 2013-2015. In 2015, Forbes ranked Austin as the #1 city for tech job growth in the U.S.

This year’s hackathon challenge will focus on creating an engaging visualization of what the future of conflict prevention will look like. Participants must be prepared and will be judged on articulating how technology will advance from the current state to the future, and will include factors such as how technology can bridge the gap between peace and conflict.

ExpeditionHacks title sponsor is the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA). NGA has partnered with Blue Compass to help engage in tech communities across the US, to help find smart and innovative solutions to challenges within the agency. ExpeditionHacks Austin is the 8th installment of the ongoing ExpeditionHacks series.
