The 2018 IEEE VIC Summit With SpotMini Robot as a Special Guest

This year the IEEE Vision, Innovation, and Challenges Summit “IEEE VIC Summit” will be held on May 11th, 2018 at the Palace Hotel in San Francisco. The annual summit brings 300 years of experience into one day of learning. The IEEE VIC Summit brings together innovators, visionaries, and disruptors in technology to discuss, explore, uncover what is imminent and what these emerging technologies mean for our future. Attendees have a chance to connect with, learn from, and build partnerships with some of the technology “Giants” in the world, including top innovators and disruptors. The speakers for the summit include: Marc Raibert, co-founder and President of Boston Dynamics Inc.; Cynthia Breazeal, MIT; Dr. Eric Krotkov, Toyota Research Institute, Grant Imahara, Consulting Mechanical Designer, Disney Research and Host, and Discovery Channel’s MythBusters.

Also at the summit is the SpotMini robot dog from Boston Dynamics.

SpotMini is a small four-legged robot that fits in your home or office.  It is all-electric, weighs 30 kg, and can go for about 90 minutes on a charge. It has the ability to pick up and handle objects using its 5 degree-of-freedom arm and perception sensors. The sensor suite includes stereo cameras, depth cameras, an IMU, and position/force sensors in the limbs.  These sensors help with navigation and mobile manipulation. SpotMini has all of the mobility of Spot which is a four-legged robot designed for indoor and outdoor operation by Boston Dynamics as well. Spot senses its rough-terrain environment using LIDAR and stereo vision in conjunction with a suite of on-board sensors to maintain balance and negotiate rough terrain.

The IEEE Honors Ceremony will be shown live Friday, 11 May, starting at 7 PM PDT here: http://transmitter.ieee.org/honors-ceremony-2018/.
