Product Review: Movo UM700 USB Desktop Studio Microphone with Adjustable Polar Patterns

The MOVO UM700 USB Desktop Microphone is the ideal tool for creators that plugs directly into your PC without any extra set-up or programs to download. The microphone’s adjustable polar patterns allows users to record a variety of recording types in various settings like recording music, live streaming, vlogging, podcasting, and conference calls.

Use the “stereo” setting to record music; then switch it to the “bidirectional” to record a two-person podcast. You can also switch it to the more directional “cardioid” setting to record a voiceover or “omnidirectional” to capture audio from all directions.

The mic gives you high-quality audio that captures 48kHz/16 Bit broadcast quality sound resolution, latency-free, with a powerful frequency response of 20Hz to 20kHz.

The UM700 USB Desktop Microphone features a solid metal build, triple mic capsule array, gain control, headphone monitoring, headphone volume control, mute button, a desktop swivel stand and 5/8″ thread for mounting.

MOVO UM700 USB Desktop Microphone Product Review:

When you unbox the MOVO UM700 Microphone you will find, the microphone, USB cable, and user manual. After unboxing the next step was setting up the microphone following the below steps.

Setting up:

  1. Unscrew the knobs on both sides, adjust the microphone to the desired angles, then screw the knobs clockwise to tighten the microphone.
  2. Plug the mini USB cable into the USB port of the microphone.
  3. Connect the other plug into the available USB port of your PC.
  4. Connect your headphone to the 3.5mm headphone output (if needed)

Following connecting the microphone to my PC the next step was going into my “Settings” to properly set it up. Please note my PC runs Windows 10 so the below are instructions using that OS. If you do not have Windows 10, the user guide also gives you instructions on how to connect via Windows 8 and Apple iOS.

After going into “Settings,” I chose the “Sound” option. Within the “Sound” settings, my next step was choosing the “Speaker UM700” as the output device in the drop-down box. The last step within settings is to select “Microphone UM700” as the input device.

Once I completed the set-up, I tested the audio but first I did an audio clip of my PC’s internal microphone so you can hear the difference in sound.

Audio Clip with PC

Next, I did audio clips of the Stereo, Cardioid, Omnidirectional, and Bi-directional patterns.

Audio Clip of UM700 Stereo Pattern

Audio Clip of UM700 Cardioid Pattern

Audio Clip of UM700 Omnidirectional Pattern

Audio Clip of UM700 Bi-directional Pattern

As you can tell there is a huge difference between the PC internal microphone versus the MOVO UM700 USB Microphone, especially in the 4 different patterns. Out of all the patterns, I think the one I would use more frequently would “Stereo” as my voice just sounded better in my opinion (though I know that pattern is usually used for recording music).

All in All, I found setting up the UM700 USB Microphone to be a very simple process and recording was a breeze. If you are looking for a quality USB microphone for live streaming, vlogging, podcasting, conference calls and recording music that won’t break the bank the MOVO UM700 USB Microphone is a great buy!
