Launched on Apple Arcade; All-Star Athletes From NHL, NBA, NFL, MLB, WNBA and NWSL Teams Take to the Ice in “Ultimate Rivals: The Rink”

In time for Women’s History Month and for the first time ever, female athletes can compete against, or alongside, male athletes in the new “Ultimate Rivals: The Rink” game from Bit Fry, a Portsmouth-based game developer. Available on Apple Arcade, “Ultimate Rivals: The Rink” is a new, fast-paced “2 vs. 2” hockey game that features many of today’s top men and women athletes.

The game includes female soccer stars such as Megan Rapinoe, Alex Morgan and Carli Lloyd, and WNBA stars Diana Taurasi, Skylar Diggins-Smith and Elena Delle Donne who can play against the likes of LeBron James, Russell Wilson, Mookie Betts, Mike Trout and Alex Ovechkin.  For example, Megan Rapinoe can team up with LeBron James to take on a team featuring Diana Taurasi and Clayton Kershaw.

Different combos of heroes unlock unique ways to play and win against the AI or other gamers in online multiplayer matches. Some of the 58 athletes include LeBron James, Mike Trout, Alex Ovechkin, Alex Morgan, Clayton Kershaw, Mookie Betts, James Harden, Zion Williamson, JJ Watt and Wayne Gretzky.

On the ice, the action is driven by players’ quick reflexes and are brought to life with stylized visuals and immersive sound FX. “Ultimate Rivals” gives anyone the ability to play with their favorite athletes in exciting arcade action with smooth, 60-frames-per-second graphics, tight controls, leading-edge visuals and sound design.

Also for a first time for the game, star athletes from all the major sports leagues are playing with and against each other.  Bit Fry has secured groundbreaking licensing agreements with nine major professional sports organizations, including the NHL, NHL Players’ Association (NHLPA), NBA, National Basketball Players Association (NBPA), MLB, MLB Players Association (MLBPA), NFLPA, Women’s National Basketball Players Association (WNBPA), USWNTPA, as well as Wayne Gretzky.

Additional athletes will be added over time, ensuring long-term depth in the game. Short-session games with arcade rules increase the accessibility of the game, while delivering deep fun and an experience where the most skilled players have the best chance to win. Players can enjoy online multiplayer matches or single player against AI opponents using touch controls or Bluetooth-connected console controllers.

“Ultimate Rivals: The Rink” launches today on Apple Arcade across iPhone, iPad, Apple TV and Mac and will be followed by an NBA licensed basketball game, “Ultimate Rivals: The Court” in spring 2020.
