Keith, Unfiltered: Portraits of Keith Richards Opens at Morrison Hotel Gallery

Who hasn’t wanted to see the life behind the scenes of Keith Richards from the Rolling Stones? Keith Richards, the co-founder, guitarist, secondary vocalist, and co-principal songwriter of the Rolling Stones has new exhibition in his honor, Keith, Unfiltered, at the infamous Morrison Hotel Gallery. A case study of the mythic being that is Keith Richards, Keith, Unfiltered. opens to the public at all three Morrison Hotel Gallery locations in NYC, LA and Maui on Friday, May 24th, 2019. On May 23rd a special, invite only reception will take place at all three gallery locations – NYC, LA and Maui. The exhibition will be open to the public on May 24th through June 22nd.

Photographs within the Keith, Unfiltered exhibit showcase Richards and bandmates in classic portraits, candidly at work, and in moments of relaxation beyond the frenetic energy of the sold-out stadiums and screaming fans. Images such as Ethan Russell’s photo of Richards posed nonchalantly beneath a “Drug Free America” poster; a shot by Michael Cooper of Richards floating in a swimming pool at Villa Nellcôte in the south of France; and Ken Regan’s photo of a shirtless Richards quietly making breakfast in the kitchen at the Montauk home of Andy Warhol.

The photographers that will be featured in Keith, Unfiltered are:Michael Cooper, Henry Diltz, Lynn Goldsmith, Bob Gruen, Michael Joseph, Art Kane, Gered Mankowitz, Terry O’Neill, Ken Regan, Ethan Russell, Norman Seeff, Stephanie Pfriender Stylander, Allan Tannenbaum, Timothy White and Charlyn Zlotnik.

Along with the Rolling Stones’ current tour, Keith, Unfiltered depicts half a century of the band’s renowned 1969 American tour, later dubbed by rock critic Robert Christgau as “history’s first mythic rock and roll tour.” It is only fitting that The Morrison Hotel Gallery celebrates this milestone with an exhibition of the many iconic images now essential to the fifty-year-strong legacy.

The Stones’ legendary 1969 American tour at 50 and all those storied years that have also since transpired, this group exhibition presented in conjunction with the Rolling Stones’ ongoing ‘No Filter’ tour offers fans a celebratory glimpse into the many ways that Richards’ time-honored artistry has shaped the uncompromising face of rock culture and vice versa.

The Keith, Unfiltered archives will be on view through June 22nd and announced that a limited number of Richards’ personally-curated ‘Talk is Cheap’ 30th Anniversary Box Set will be available for purchase exclusively at Morrison Hotel Gallery. This exhibition will also mark the final opportunity for collectors to own one of the very last prints in an edition from photographer Michael Joseph’s historic Beggar’s Banquet photoshoot – one that is widely regarded as having produced some of the band’s most formative portraits. The prints can be purchased in-person or online.
