iPhone X: One of the Most Expensive Smartphones on the Market

Source: Apple

The iPhone X recently was released to purchase for a whopping $999.00. To date the most expensive iPhone launched and quite possibly the biggest price tag in general for a smart phone. While the iPhone 8 was recently launched, the iPhone X is already stealing headlines but not as positive as Apple hoped.

Most of us tech geeks have no problem shelling out some dough for a new electronic however there is a stipulation, it better be worth it! The question remains; is the $999.00 iPhone X worth it? What do consumers get to compensate for the large price tag? Is Apple trying to be “cool” for over pricing a smartphone that has had dismal reviews with less than a week it went to market? Below are the current pricing options with carriers to consider if purchasing an iPhone X.

One of the concerns already is OLED display and if will have the burn-in effect like the Google Pixel 2XL. Per Apple, the Super Retina display on the iPhone X was engineered to meet Apple’s high standards. Apple further states that iPhone X’s display is the best OLED display that has ever shipped in a smartphone while offering the best color accuracy in the industry. Apple also says the 5.8-inch Super Retina display has a contrast at a 1,000,000 to 1 contrast ratio, high brightness, and a cinema standard wide color gamut.

Apple further claims on their site “If you look at an OLED display off-angle, you might notice slight shifts in color and hue. This is a characteristic of OLED and is normal behavior. With extended long-term use, OLED displays can also show slight visual changes. This is also expected behavior and can include “image persistence” or “burn-in,” where the display shows a faint remnant of an image even after a new image appears on the screen. This can occur in more extreme cases such as when the same high contrast image is continuously displayed for prolonged periods of time. We’ve engineered the Super Retina display to be the best in the industry in reducing the effects of OLED “burn-in.”

Am I the only one calling out the elephant in the room? Why would consumers buy a $999.00 smartphone that already has glitches to only become an early adapter?

Another issue with the iPhone X consumers are learning is the glass back that has proven to shatter as soon as it’s dropped per CNET’s product review of the iPhone X. One would assume paying the heafty price tag the iPhone X would be shatter proof, sadly it is not. Worse, it has been claimed that the hassle of replacing the shattered glass back is $550.00.

Even more frustrating, it is said that consumers can’t DYI the glass back, Apple has made their “AppleCare+” the only options for the iPhone X. Directly cited from Apple’s site; “Every iPhone comes with one year of hardware repair coverage through its limited warranty and up to 90 days of complimentary support. AppleCare+ for iPhone extends your coverage to two years from the original purchase date of your iPhone and adds up to two incidents of accidental damage coverage, each subject to a service fee of $29 for screen damage, or $99 for any other damage, plus applicable tax.” Basically if you’re buying the new iPhone X it is in your best interest to invest in AppleCare+.

The very reason consumers buy iPhones since day one is its ease of use. The iPhone X seems to prove the opposite of that. Though I have not personally tested it out yet most reviews I have read have an underlying negative tone about the two above issues with the iPhone X.

As a long time iPhone user I’m hoping these issues will be resolved or at least a discount on the repairs. Below are the full specs of the iPhone X.
