Dance Reality App Uses Apple’s ARKit to Help You Practice Your Dance Steps at Home.

Have you ever wanted to practice your dance moves at home? Dance Reality uses Apple’s newest augmented reality technology to place footprints onto the floor in front of you. Dance Reality users look through their phone to step on the footprints, then follow the animation to practice common dance patterns.

The Dance Reality App features for users include:

  • Control the speed to learn at your own pace
  • Counting voice-over helps you stay on the beat
  • Choose a song to go with your steps (coming soon)
  • Choose between Follow and Lead steps
  • Solo and Couple practice
  • Instructional videos from trained dancers

I decided to test out this app as I love to dance; I’m not that great but I have fun! Signing up was simple; finding a dance spot on my dark wood floors took some time. When getting started you have this disco ball on your display I had to turn on all of my lights in my condo before it detected the floor.

Once the floor was detected users need to tilt smartphone and place your feet over the displayed feet on the app. After you got that you go through a very short warmup which is also automated. To be a fly on the wall watching someone using this app would be hilarious.

After you complete the warm-up they are directed to a page with different dance style options. Please note that this actually cost money. The app is free but the dance routines or style of dance will cost you $4.99.

The Supported Devices for the Dance Reality include:

  • iPhone X
  • iPhone 8, 8 Plus
  • iPhone 7, 7 Plus
  • iPhone SE
  • iPhone 6s, 6s Plus
  • iPad Pro
  • New 9.7-inch iPad (2017)
