Happy International Women’s Day! WOMEN ROCK!

My abuelita and I around the same age!

Happy International Women’s Day! When I think of all the amazing women in my life and those I had the lovely experience to meet I realize how awesome us women are.

What woman inspires you every day? For me it’s my abuelita for starting off as a secretary at the airforce base and retired as the Chief Transportation Officer. How inspiring as that? Every time I think I can’t do something I think of her and remind myself that I can. If she was able to overcome the obstacle of not only being a woman in the work place but also being Hispanic in a time where it wasn’t that accepted I can overcome any thing.

I am also inspired by all the little girls and woman that have Crohn’s or Colitis who have such amazing courage and grace all the while they’re sick and in pain. Did you know that 1 out of every 12 men and 1 out of every 9 women have autoimmune diseases? Last year during the Take Steps Walk for Crohn’s and Colitis that I do for my disease each year a little girl about the age of 5 came up to me and said “I have Crohn’s too can I hold your hand?”

Such a simple request and made me think if just holding her little hand made her day better imagine when you are in bad times and simply asked a fellow woman “Can I please hold your hand?” I know it would make my day. I’m not saying it would heal the world what I am saying is we need to praise each other and embrace each other during the good and hard times. Sometimes you just need someone to hold your hand. This little girl also reminded me not only how courageous she is but also to be as courageous even when your cards are down or your scared. Any time I have Pan Ulcerative Colitis attack I think of how courageous she is and it makes me stronger and fight through the attack.

Today I encourage you to thank your fellow women friends, family and peers for being amazing, strong and courageous. “There is no limit to what we, as women, can accomplish.” – Michelle Obama
